How Travelling to Attend Sister’s Wedding In Nairobi Ended In Tragedy As Couple, Child Die

New details have emerged how a couple attending sister’s wedding in Nairobi ended in tragedy in a road accident, Timboroa.

Former St. Paul’s Lugari Boys High School teacher Solomon Otimo succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident in Timboroa, hours after his newly married wife and another child lost their lives in the same crash that claimed six lives.

Otimo, who was renowned for his dedication to teaching and mentoring students, had spent more than two decades at St. Paul’s Lugari Boys, where he taught and helped learners in their academic journey.

He was remembered by former colleagues as a committed educationist who dedicated much of his time to ensuring students performed well academically while also guiding them beyond the classroom.

However, his life took a difficult turn in 2019 following the death of his first wife in a tragic road accident at Kaburengu.

Following the painful loss, Otimo reportedly moved from St. Paul’s Lugari Boys to a school closer to his home, hoping to make life easier for himself and his family.

Sadly, the teacher has now suffered another devastating road tragedy, losing his life alongside his newly married wife in circumstances that have left relatives and former colleagues heartbroken.

According to sources, Otimo and his wife, Christine, were travelling with other family members to Nairobi to attend his sister’s wedding when the accident occurred.

The crash happened early on Saturday when a 14-seater North Rift Sacco matatu travelling from Eldoret towards Nakuru collided with a trailer carrying ballast along the Timboroa highway.

Christine, who was a teacher at St. Mukasa Boys High School, died at the scene alongside other passengers.

Among the victims were Janet Watai, the headteacher of Chamavele Comprehensive School, and Sarah Ombachi, who headed Lumani Primary School in Matete, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.

Sarah’s daughter, a pupil at Kivaywa Primary School, also perished in the accident.

Otimo was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but later died after his organs reportedly failed.
