Government to Finance Javits Frimpong’s Mother’s Trip to US for Funeral – Ablakwa
According to a report by Citinews on Sunday, 1, 2026, the government of Ghana has pledged to cover the travel expenses of Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of murdered 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, to enable her to attend her son’s funeral in the United States.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the decision, explaining that the government would take full responsibility for the arrangements required for her trip.
The intervention comes after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani reportedly engaged US authorities on the matter, resulting in President Donald Trump granting the bereaved mother an immediate visa to travel to the country.
Mr Ablakwa said he had spoken directly with Madam Adu Gyamfi and instructed officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support her throughout the visa application process.
In a social media statement published on Saturday, October 31, the minister said the Mahama administration recognised the family’s grief and was committed to ensuring that the mother could travel to bid her son a final farewell.
He further disclosed that the government was willing to offer financial support towards organising a befitting funeral for the teenager.
The minister expressed appreciation to President Trump for facilitating the visa approval and commended Mayor Mamdani for his role in the process.
Mr Ablakwa also assured the family that the government would work with the appropriate authorities to pursue justice over Javits Frimpong’s killing.
The government’s commitment is intended to ease the burden on the grieving family and ensure that the teenager’s mother can attend the funeral in the United States.
