Former Pirates Coach Explains Why He Left the Club for Golden Arrows
Former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has opened up about his decision to leave the Soweto giants and return to Golden Arrows, revealing that he missed the pressure, responsibility and intensity associated with managing a football team.
Ncikazi, who recently returned to the Durban-based club, explained that despite enjoying considerable success during his time at Orlando Pirates, he still had the desire to experience the demands of coaching from the touchline again.
The experienced tactician admitted that he missed the stress that comes with making important decisions during competitive matches. According to Ncikazi, the pressure of managing a team was something he did not want to miss out on for the remainder of his coaching career.
His remarks came after Golden Arrows suffered a 1-0 defeat against AmaZulu FC, a result that highlighted the challenges awaiting him in his new role.
Ncikazi also indicated that he believes he had achieved everything he wanted during his time at Orlando Pirates. His departure therefore represented the end of an important chapter rather than a decision driven by dissatisfaction with the Buccaneers.
During his spell at Pirates, Ncikazi formed part of the technical team that helped the club compete for major honours and experience several memorable moments. He also expressed appreciation to the supporters for the memories and support he received throughout his time at the club.
However, Golden Arrows remained an attractive destination because of his previous relationship with the team. Ncikazi recalled the achievements they shared, including helping the club secure the highest league finish in its history.
His return also provides an opportunity to work with younger footballers and contribute to their development.
The coach now faces the responsibility of improving Golden Arrows’ performances and restoring consistency as the season progresses. His comments suggest that returning to the pressure of leading a team was a major motivation behind his decision to leave Orlando Pirates.
