Football Academy in Enugu: Who Is Active and What It Costs

On Saturday 24 October 2026, in Baku, Wisdom Boniface of Adoration Academy in Enugu equalised for Nigeria after South Sudan had scored first, in a 3-3 draw that Arise and Voice of Nigeria both reported. It was the Future Eagles’ opener at the first FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival. He was one of 23 players invited, and the only one listed from an Enugu academy.

Adoration Academy is the clearest case. Its forward is in the squad list Nigeria published on 13 October.

Synergy Football Academy in Nsukka runs a website with five age bands, from under-5 to a performance pathway for 19 to 25 year olds. It announces a partnership with the platform Sportsify dated 11 September 2026. It lists contact details but no fees. Nsukka Legends Football Academy has a YouTube channel that describes itself as a place for training videos, and nothing more could be confirmed. Details are scarce.

Noble Academy, formerly Noble Kids Football, is the best documented, though the record is older. ICIR reported in September 2024 that it began as a street project in Abakpa Nike in 2005, was revived by Chinedu Otugeme in 2015 and was registered with the Enugu State Grassroot Managers Association by 2017. It fields teams from under-10 to open age. It says it receives no government or sponsor money and charges players, but no amounts were printed. One player, Amobi Victor, joined in May 2023. He went with seven others to Sierra Leone for trials, where Bhantal Football Club picked him on a monthly stipend of ₦10,000, ICIR said. We could not confirm its 2026 status.

Pitches are a problem. Otugeme was blunt: “In an area like Abakpa, with over 10 football clubs and academies, there is no single standard pitch.”

Rangers International beat Ikorodu City 2-1 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on 24 May 2026. Chidiebere Nwobodo scored twice. It is a ninth league title. Only Enyimba International has as many. Governor Peter Mbah told the squad they had “restored the glory of Enugu as the incubator and hub of champions”, ThisDay reported.

The step below the trophy is thinner. We found no open trial notice from the club for 2026 and no published fee schedule, so parents should not assume a route exists.

In September 2025 the Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo met Mbah to propose a talent-scouting project for Enugu and the South East, with the Rangers general manager Amobi Ezeaku beside him. Mbah wrote that the state remains “committed to advancing grassroots sports and strengthening Rangers International FC”. We found no later details.

No Enugu academy we found lists a price. Elsewhere, prices swing. Daily Trust reported on 27 December 2025 that Kwara Football Academy in Ilorin charges between ₦500,000 and ₦600,000 a year, according to its administrator Ibrahim Bako, who added that Real Madrid’s academy in Port Harcourt and an Abuja academy charge up to ₦2 million. Awajis put the Papilo application form at ₦12,500 in May 2026, with annual fees of ₦150,000 to ₦250,000 that it tells readers to verify.

Ask whether the registration form is separate from the yearly charge, and whether a state body registers the academy, because a low form price can sit beside a large annual bill.

Maduka Okoye told Mbah on 24 June 2025 that he wanted “a foundation for humanitarian causes and a football academy to mentor and train aspiring players”. The governor pledged land. We found no launch announcement by 1 November.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium had ₦10 billion earmarked in the 2025 state budget, the commissioner Lloyd Ekweremadu said in January 2025. In November 2025 the Federal Government announced a National Institute for Sports zonal headquarters for Enugu. The Coal City Games run from 27 November to 11 December.

Six of the 23 Baku invitees were listed under the NFF Talent Development Scheme. Abuja supplied Eagles Wings Academy and AS Roma Academy. Lagos supplied Buruj Football Academy and Mavlon FC, and Ibadan the 3SC youth team and 12Alive FC. Our guides to football academies in Abuja, the Lagos list and Ibadan academies show a market with named operators and prices.

Kano shows how Enugu can matter without a famous academy. Hamza Badamasi, 19, a player at an unnamed Kano academy, told Daily Trust that after a Bayern Munich talent hunt in Kano: “From there, we were taken to Enugu, and I was fortunate to be among those selected to travel abroad.” Our guide to football academies in Kano State covers his side of it.

Enugu has a champion club, a visible national call-up and a government keen to be seen backing sport. It lacks a public list of who trains where and at what price. Until one exists, trust what you can check: a named coach, a registered body, a fee in writing and a player who has actually left the gate.
