Expect Heavy Rainfall In These Regions In Whole Of November, Kenya Met Warns
The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast above-average rainfall in 46 counties throughout November 2026, warning residents to prepare for possible flooding, landslides and other weather-related hazards.
In its monthly weather outlook released on Saturday night, October 31, the authority identified November as a crucial period in the ongoing October-November-December short rains season.
The expected rainfall is likely to support agricultural production, replenish water sources and improve livelihoods, although some regions could experience dangerous weather conditions.
Counties expected to receive above-average rainfall include Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a and Nairobi.
Others are Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Laikipia and Nyandarua.
The forecast also covers Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Narok, Kajiado, Samburu and parts of West Pokot and Marsabit counties.
Despite the anticipated rainfall, Kenya is expected to experience generally warm conditions during the month. Temperatures in highland areas are projected to range between 15°C and 20°C, while some arid and semi-arid regions could record temperatures exceeding 28°C.
KMSA cautioned that increased rainfall could create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, potentially raising malaria transmission risks.
The authority also warned of flash floods, overflowing rivers, landslides and infrastructure damage, particularly in low-lying coastal areas, urban centres with poor drainage and highland regions vulnerable to soil erosion.
Residents living near rivers and in flood-prone neighbourhoods have been urged to exercise caution as the anticipated weather conditions could disrupt transport, destroy property and threaten lives.
The latest outlook follows an October 25 warning in which the meteorological agency forecast rainfall exceeding 20mm within 24 hours in 45 counties, accompanied by gusty winds and strong southerly to southeasterly winds in several regions.
