Bodyguards Quickly Secure Wanga, Arati, Mbadi to Their Vehicles as Goons Takes Over Jacaranda Ground
An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) political rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi descended into chaos on Saturday, October 31, after unidentified individuals stormed the main stage and disrupted proceedings, forcing senior politicians and supporters to seek safety.
The gathering had been organised to mark the conclusion of the month-long Mwezi wa Baba commemorations honouring the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died in October 2025. Thousands of supporters had assembled at the venue to celebrate his political legacy and demonstrate their continued support for the party.
However, what was expected to be a major political gathering quickly turned into an uncomfortable scene after unfamiliar individuals made their way onto the main dais while party leaders were being introduced to the crowd.
According to reports by The Star, Kenya, the intruders grabbed the microphone, interrupting the proceedings and creating confusion among those attending the event. Some individuals had reportedly attempted to access the stage alongside their security personnel before tensions escalated.
As the situation deteriorated, organisers and some leaders appealed to supporters to remain calm and avoid running. However, panic spread across the grounds, with sections of the crowd scrambling for safety as confrontations continued.
Several prominent political figures were present at the rally, including Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi. Other senior officials, including Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, also attended the gathering.
Security personnel moved to protect the political leaders as the situation became increasingly difficult to control, with officials reportedly leaving the venue in their vehicles.
Police officers subsequently intervened as efforts were made to restore order around the grounds.
The incident has raised questions about security arrangements at major political gatherings, particularly following assurances that adequate measures had been put in place ahead of the event.
As of the initial reports, the identities of those responsible and the circumstances surrounding the disruption remained unclear. There were also no confirmed reports of injuries or arrests.
