‘AI Picture of Me Taking Money From ANC Leaders’ — Nomvalo Alleges Plot to Mislead Zuma
Former uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo has raised serious allegations about the use of artificial intelligence, claiming that a fabricated image portraying him receiving money from African National Congress (ANC) leaders was presented to party president Jacob Zuma.
Nomvalo, who was removed from his position as secretary-general, said the alleged incident illustrated what he described as lies being circulated about him within the party.
“To illustrate these lies, I’m told an AI picture of me taking money from ANC leaders was shown to the president (Zuma),” Nomvalo said.
His remarks raise questions about the role that manipulated digital images and unverified allegations may play in internal political disputes, particularly within a party experiencing leadership changes and tensions over its direction.
Artificial intelligence has made it increasingly easy to create realistic-looking images that can misrepresent people, events and conversations. Such material can become politically damaging when it is circulated without verification or presented as evidence of alleged misconduct.
However, Nomvalo’s account, as reported in his statement, does not independently establish whether the image was created, who allegedly produced it, or whether Zuma was shown the material. These details remain important in assessing the claims.
Nomvalo’s removal from the secretary-general position has also attracted attention amid broader questions about leadership appointments and decision-making within the MK Party.
The party, led by former South African president Zuma, has experienced several changes involving its senior leadership since its formation. The secretary-general position has been particularly significant because of its responsibility for organisational coordination and party administration.
Nomvalo’s allegations could intensify scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding his departure and the information allegedly presented to the party leadership.
The controversy also highlights a growing challenge for political organisations: distinguishing authentic evidence from digitally manipulated material, especially when internal disagreements become public.
For now, the central issue remains Nomvalo’s allegation that an AI-generated image was used to portray him as receiving money from ANC leaders.
Whether the alleged image exists, who may have circulated it, and how the party leadership responded are questions that require further clarification.
Until additional evidence or responses emerge, the claims should be treated as allegations rather than established facts.
