Wode Maya Makes History as Top Russian University Names Him Among 100 African Influencers

Renowned Ghanaian YouTuber Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, popularly known as Wode Maya, has expressed excitement and gratitude after discovering that a prestigious Russian university has featured him in a book celebrating 100 African leaders and influencers.

Wode Maya shared the remarkable experience in a post on his official Facebook page on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following his participation in the Africa-Russia Summit in Moscow.

According to him, an unexpected encounter with a young Russian woman at the summit led to the exciting discovery. The woman approached him and asked whether he was Wode Maya. After confirming his identity, she told him that MGIMO University, one of Russia’s prestigious universities, had published a book titled 100 African Leaders and Influencers, which included him among the personalities featured.

He explained that he was initially surprised and thought the information might be a joke until the woman showed him a digital copy of the publication.

The Ghanaian content creator further revealed that the experience became even more special the following day when a professor from the university personally brought an English-language copy of the book to his hotel.

Reflecting on the recognition, Wode Maya said he was humbled by the development because he never imagined that his efforts to promote Africa would earn him such international recognition.

He explained that his journey started with a simple desire to tell African stories differently and help change the negative perceptions people have about the continent.

According to him, the recognition reminded him that his work has reached people beyond the countries he has visited.

Wode Maya expressed gratitude for the honour, describing the experience as something bigger than himself.

His latest recognition highlights the growing international attention surrounding his work in promoting African tourism, culture, development and investment through digital media.
