Winnie Odinga Jokingly Introduces Her Partner During a Public Appearance – Details

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga amused guests at her mother Ida Odinga’s 76th birthday celebration after jokingly introducing her white Chihuahua as her partner.

The moment happened at the Odinga family’s home in Karen, Nairobi, where relatives and friends had gathered. It was Ida’s first birthday since the death of her husband, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died in October 2025.

Winnie took the microphone to pay tribute to her mother, describing Ida as the person holding the family together as they dealt with their loss.

The mood changed when Winnie’s dog walked onto the podium and settled beside her. Instead of ignoring the interruption, she used it to make a joke.

“This is my partner here. When everyone was introducing their family, now this is mine,” Winnie told the guests, prompting laughter.

The remark referred to her personal life. Winnie has previously spoken openly about being single and focused on her work.

She has shared that she came out of a relationship that lasted about nine years. She has said she does not intend to rush into marriage because of pressure from society.

Winnie has explained that she would rather build a relationship based on love and commitment than marry simply to meet other people’s expectations. She has also spoken about questions from the public and reminders from her mother about settling down.

The celebration brought family and friends together to honour Ida during a difficult period. Winnie’s playful introduction offered a lighter moment during an occasion that also remembered Raila.

She once described herself as being “married to her work” while explaining that she had not found the right person.

For now, the Chihuahua appeared to have earned the joking title of Winnie’s partner, although her comment was made in jest.
