Trump Steps In After Ghanaian Boy Is Killed In US, Makes Special Decision For His Mother
A heartbreaking tragedy involving a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy in the United States has taken another emotional turn after US President Donald Trump reportedly agreed to grant an immediate visa to the boy’s mother so she can travel from Ghana and say her final goodbye to her son.
The boy, identified as Javits Frimpong, was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York, on Thursday, October 29, 2026. His death has left his family devastated and raised fresh concerns about the safety of young people in the area.
The visa arrangement was announced by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday, October 31. According to the mayor, he spoke directly with President Trump, who agreed to help the grieving mother travel to the United States.
In his announcement, Mamdani said: “The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away. Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately.”
The development is important because Javits’ mother was in Ghana when the tragedy occurred, leaving her unable to be physically present with her son during the painful moments following his death.
Reports indicate that Javits was shot in the abdomen while walking to school near Crotona Park in the Bronx. He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His father, Thomas Frimpong, had reportedly brought him from Ghana to New York about a year earlier in the hope of giving him better opportunities and access to education.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting have also raised serious questions. Thomas reportedly told media outlets that his son had complained about being bullied at school. He said two students had recently been suspended following problems involving his son.
However, police have not confirmed that bullying was connected to the fatal shooting, and the motive remains under investigation. Reports indicate that authorities are searching for three teenage suspects, but no arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.
Ghana’s government has also promised to support the family in seeking justice. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has spoken with Javits’ father and assured him that Ghana would work with US authorities.
