Trump Agrees to Give Visa to Ghanaian Mother to Bury Son Shot Dead in New York – Details below

US President Donald Trump has reportedly agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong, who was tragically shot dead while walking to school in the Bronx, New York.

The development was announced by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a telephone conversation with President Trump.

According to Mamdani, he personally spoke with Trump about the situation, and the US president agreed to help the grieving mother travel from Ghana to the United States.

Javits’ mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, has been in Ghana following the heartbreaking death of her son. The reported visa arrangement will allow her to travel to New York, attend his funeral and say her final goodbye in person.

In announcing the development, Mamdani expressed sympathy for the family, saying that no parent should have to experience the pain of losing a child, especially while being thousands of miles away.

The teenager was reportedly shot on Thursday morning, October 29, while making his way to school in the Bronx. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital but unfortunately died from his injuries.

His death has shocked members of the Ghanaian community in New York and attracted attention from people in Ghana and beyond.

Javits had reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States about a year ago to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, in search of a better future.

Following the shooting, his father raised concerns about alleged bullying at school, saying two students had recently been suspended following complaints involving his son. However, police have not established a motive for the killing.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, with suspects still being sought.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s government has also expressed concern over the incident and pledged to work with US authorities to ensure justice for the teenager.

The reported visa agreement has brought some relief to the grieving family, as Javits’ mother may now have the opportunity to travel to America and give her son a final farewell.
