Today’s Headlines:Don’t Be Deceived, Vote for Tinubu-South-East Govs;US Judge Bars Election Threats

Governors of Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States have urged South-East residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, warning them against political distractions. They made the appeal at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Mega Rally and Empowerment Programme in Enugu, where they praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, infrastructure projects and efforts towards greater political inclusion for the region. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma urged voters to maintain support for the administration, while Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru and Anambra Deputy Governor Gilbert Ibezim also endorsed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also called on the Igbo to support Tinubu, arguing that stronger political alliances would improve the South-East’s chances of producing a Nigerian president. He highlighted the establishment of the South-East Development Commission as an important step towards addressing the region’s challenges. The rally also featured an empowerment programme targeting 5,000 women across the South-East, with beneficiaries expected to receive financial assistance, healthcare support and tools for income generation.

A US federal judge temporarily blocked on Friday the Justice Department from threatening state and local election officials with criminal prosecution if they fail to comply with its directives on processing ballots.

The order by Judge Trina Thompson in the Northern District of California deals a setback to Trump administration efforts to restrict voting by people it says might not be US citizens in the November 3 midterm elections.

The harshly worded temporary restraining order was issued in response to a case brought by labor union and civil rights groups against the Justice Department and Department of Homeland Security.

“Defendants shall not threaten, intimidate or coerce state or local elections officials or workers to demand that they halt processing the ballots of any registered voter solely on the basis that the ballot belongs to an individual alleged by Defendants to be ineligible to vote,” Thompson wrote.

Vice-presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Alhaji Lawal Daura, has declared Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as the most competent and credible presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Daura ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌made this declaration while receiving leaders of the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) at the party’s presidential campaign headquarters in Abuja on Saturday.

The vice-presidential candidate said Makinde stood head and shoulders above his political rivals based on his proven track record, performance in public office and unmatched vision for national development.

Galatasaray forward, Rafael Leão, has thanked Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, for allowing him to take a penalty during the club’s 4-0 victory over Konyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday.

Leão scored his first goal for the Turkish champions after Osimhen handed him the opportunity to convert a second-half spot-kick, despite being the club’s regular penalty taker.

The gesture came a day after Osimhen and his partner welcomed their second daughter, Liora Audrey, on Thursday.

Osimhen had earlier opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a header, dedicating the goal to his newborn daughter through his celebration.
