Teachers, Nurses, Police Officers Can Own Homes With N100,000—FG
The Federal Government on Friday flagged off the construction of a 2,000-unit Renewed Hope Housing Development at Lekki Aviation Town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State,
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who performed the groundbreaking, said the project is not just about building houses, but about expanding homeownership, creating jobs and building sustainable cities under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
In a keynote address tagged “A new era in housing delivery”, the Minister declared that the Ministry is pursuing a comprehensive strategy anchored on four pillars: increased housing supply, accessible mortgage finance, effective private-sector partnerships, and evidence-based policymaking.
According to him, the Ibeju-Lekki project being executed in partnership with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited and Metroscape Development Company Limited is a prime example of how government can mobilise private capital, land and expertise to deliver housing at scale.
The estate will comprise two- and three-bedroom units in one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economic corridors, driven by the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Free Trade Zone.
Darma also insisted that the built industry must be fully regulated as agreed by the stakeholders during the validation exercise in Abuja, adding that with proper regulations, housing collapses and other vices in the built environment can be avoided.
He further stated that the Ministry is working towards harmonising all the agencies into one coordinating clearing machine aimed at achieving better access to mortgage financing by Nigerians.
“A house is only truly accessible when a Nigerian can obtain financing on terms consistent with his income,” the Minister declared.
He charged Harmony Garden and other contractors involved in the construction of the 2000 housing units to uphold the highest safety standards and environmental responsibilities, noting that Nigerians are watching them.

” The success will be measured not by today’s ceremony, but by timely delivery of quality, affordable homes”, he stated.
In his remarks, the representative of the Governor of Lagos State, Hon Prince Bayo Balogun, acknowledged the contributions of Harmony Gardens to the development of Lagos and Ibeju-Lekki in particular, adding that Harmony Gardens is not just an investor but a philanthropist.
He commended the initiative of 2,000 housing units by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and called on genuine investors to partner with the state government to bridge the housing gap in Lagos occasioned by its growing population.
Delivering his goodwill message, the Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning, Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante, urged the Housing Ministry and its private partners to adopt integrated planning in the delivery of the 2,000-unit Renewed Hope City in Ibeju-Lekki.
He warned that solving the housing problem should not create new challenges in transportation, markets and access to basic amenities.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, described the project as a major milestone in the Federal Government’s drive to provide decent, safe and affordable housing for Nigerians, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He commended the developer for its commitment and urged timely delivery of a high-quality, sustainable community, adding that the Ministry will provide institutional oversight and quality assurance to ensure the project serves as a model for housing delivery at scale nationwide.
The Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited, Abdullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an unprecedented pathway for ordinary Nigerians to own homes without breaking the bank.
He noted that with as little as a N100,000 initial deposit and payment spread over 25 years through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, the dream of homeownership is now within reach for teachers, police officers, nurses, civil servants, young entrepreneurs and Nigerians in the diaspora.
