South East Governors Still Working Behind Scene To Set Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Free, Otti Insists

Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Chioma Otti has declared that the South East Governors are still working behind the scene with some concerned federal authorities to release the incarcerated leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is serving a life in imprisonment following accusations of treason leveled against him by the Federal Government.

According to the Abia governor, the governors have not abandoned the quest to get the IPOB leader out of prison, stressing that the details of their programme over that are not what would be made public.

Speaking at the October edition of his monthly media parley tagged “Governor Alex Otti Speaks To Abians”, Friday evening, Otti used the forum to reeled out his achievements since he became governor in 2023, pointing out that his administration has done well in all sectors of the economy.

He disclosed that Abia under him took the decision to embark on massive reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructures particularly road infrastructure because there are pivotal to development, saying that the decision has put the state in good economic conditions.

His word, “we started by fixing the roads that were abandoned in Aba and Umuahia because they posed as impediments to internally generated revenue, they’re impediments to business growth, they’re impediments to free movements etc.

“We decided to do something in that regard to bring huge revenue to the state, jobs to the unemployed etc. As a result of our interventions, the revenue profile of the state has increased tremendously “.

According to Otti, sanity has been restored in most parts of the state because of free movements of vehicles and human beings, adding that the cities that the government rehabilitated are critical to its economic survival.

On Ebola Disease, the Abia governor stated that though there is no sign of an impending outbreak of the dreaded disease in the state, the government has mapped out strategies to forestall any of such sign or outbreak in any part of Abia.

On the relocation of the street traders at Isi-Gate axis of Umuahia, Otti explained that the relocation of traders in that axis will be gradual, even as he argued that it makes no sense for the traders to be forced out of the place without giving them an alternative.

“We should not forget that some people depend on these kind business to fend for their families. If you displace them without providing an alternative, you have created a problem while trying to solve one”, he declared.

Reminded that many teachers in the state have not received the N1 billion cash gift he donated to them during the recent World Teachers Day, the Abia governor directed that the amount be shared to all teachers in the state irrespective of positions or rank, describing it as a personal gift and not a promotional or officious project.
