Prepare for Heavy Rains for the Next 4-Days if You Live in the Following Parts of the Country
The Kenya Meteorological Service has warned residents in 41 counties to prepare for rainfall over the next five days, with thunderstorms expected in several regions as the country continues experiencing the October-December short-rains season.
In its latest five-day weather outlook issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the weather agency indicated that rainfall would be experienced between Saturday, October 31, and Wednesday, November 4.
The forecast covers counties in the Coast, Central, Western, Rift Valley, Northern Kenya and Lake Victoria Basin regions. While most affected areas are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, 19 counties have been singled out for showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
Along the Coast, Mombasa and Lamu are expected to experience showers on Saturday and Wednesday. Kwale and Kilifi are forecast to receive rainfall on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while Tana River is expected to experience showers on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Taita Taveta is also among the affected counties, with rainfall expected on four days during the forecast period.
Nairobi residents should also prepare for moderate afternoon showers on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
In Central Kenya, Nyeri is expected to receive moderate rainfall on Saturday and Tuesday, while Murang’a and Kiambu are also projected to experience showers during the five-day period.
Other counties included in the forecast are Bomet, Kericho, Kakamega, Kisii, Narok, Nakuru, Laikipia, Samburu, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori.
In the South-Eastern region, Machakos and Makueni are expected to receive moderate rainfall on Saturday, with additional showers forecast on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The agency has also identified 19 counties where thunderstorms are expected, particularly across the Rift Valley, Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin.
The latest forecast comes after overnight rainfall triggered flash floods and traffic disruption in Nairobi and neighbouring counties, including Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos.
The developments have renewed attention on the effects of heavy rainfall, particularly in areas where poor drainage and rising water levels can disrupt transport and daily activities.
As the short-rains season continues, residents in affected counties have been encouraged to monitor official weather updates and prepare for changing conditions, especially during afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
The five-day outlook provides an indication of the expected weather patterns, although rainfall intensity and distribution may vary from one location to another.
