Pirates and Chiefs Confirm Strong Starting Line-Ups for Highly Anticipated Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced their starting line-ups ahead of the much-anticipated Soweto Derby at a sold-out FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The two Soweto giants meet in the 186th official instalment of their historic rivalry, with both teams determined to secure maximum points and bragging rights in one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar.

With thousands of supporters expected to create an electric atmosphere in Johannesburg, both coaches have selected competitive starting elevens for the Betway Premiership encounter.

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has handed Sipho Chaine the responsibility of guarding the goal, with Nkosinathi Sibisi captaining the side. The defensive department features Deon Hotto, Lebone Seema and Nkosikhona Ndaba.

In midfield, Thalente Mbatha, Thapelo Mokobodi and Simphiwe Selepe have been selected to provide balance and control, while the attacking responsibility falls on Simphiwe Masilela, Tshepang Moremi and Yanela Mbuthuma.

The Buccaneers will be hoping their attacking players can continue their impressive performances as they look to maintain their strong position in the league standings.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has also selected an experienced team capable of competing against their biggest rivals.

Brandon Petersen starts in goal and will captain Amakhosi, while Reeve Frosler, Inacio Miguel, Thabo Moloisane and Paseka Mako complete the defensive line

Sibongiseni Mthethwa will provide protection in midfield, alongside Lebohang Maboe and Mduduzi Shabalala.

Further forward, Mfundo Vilakazi, Pule Mmodi and Wandile Duba have been trusted to lead the attacking department.

Duba’s inclusion is particularly interesting following his impressive hat-trick against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup during the week. His recent performance will give Chiefs supporters plenty of encouragement heading into the derby.

Both teams have plenty to fight for, with Pirates looking to strengthen their position near the top of the Betway Premiership table, while Chiefs are eager to improve their league campaign.
