ORLANDO PIRATES DEFEAT KAIZER CHIEFS TO CLAIM SOWETO DERBY BRAGGING RIGHTS AND MOVE TOP

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 31 OCTOBER 2026

Orlando Pirates have secured a memorable victory over their fierce rivals Kaizer Chiefs after recording a 2-1 win in the highly anticipated Soweto Derby at a sold-out FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers walked away with all three points following an intense encounter between South Africa’s two biggest football clubs, delivering another important result in their Betway Premiership campaign.

The eagerly anticipated clash attracted enormous attention, with thousands of supporters filling FNB Stadium to witness one of the most significant fixtures on the South African football calendar.

Both teams entered the encounter determined to secure bragging rights, but it was Pirates who ultimately emerged victorious after producing the performance needed to overcome their Soweto rivals.

For the Buccaneers, the result represents more than just a derby victory. It provides a significant boost to their title ambitions and strengthens their position in the race for the Betway Premiership crown.

Pirates’ victory also brings an end to Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of walking away with maximum points from a fixture that carries enormous importance for both sets of supporters.

Amakhosi will undoubtedly be disappointed with the outcome, particularly after entering the contest with expectations of making a strong statement against their biggest rivals.

Despite their efforts, the Glamour Boys were unable to prevent Pirates from taking control of the contest and securing the decisive advantage.

The 2-1 scoreline reflects the competitive nature of the Soweto Derby, where individual moments, tactical decisions and the ability to handle pressure often determine the final outcome.

For Orlando Pirates supporters, however, Saturday’s result will be celebrated as another memorable occasion in the long-standing rivalry between the two Soweto giants.

Moving to the top of the league standings makes the victory even sweeter for the Buccaneers, who will now look to maintain their momentum as the Premiership campaign continues.

Meanwhile, Chiefs must quickly shift their attention to their next assignment and find a way to respond after suffering a painful defeat in front of their supporters.

The Soweto Derby has once again delivered drama, excitement and talking points, but this time Pirates have emerged as the kings of Johannesburg.
