NAIROBI: Sakaja Promises to Buy 10,000 Tickets for Fans Ahead of Bayern Munich vs Ajax Match

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has excited football fans after promising to purchase 10,000 tickets for supporters ahead of the highly anticipated international friendly between European football giants FC Bayern Munich and AFC Ajax Amsterdam in Nairobi.

Speaking during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the county boss announced that he would personally buy the tickets to give local football enthusiasts an opportunity to watch the historic encounter at the newly constructed Raila Odinga International Stadium.

“In January, we will have the Bayern Munich vs Ajax match, and I will buy 10,000 tickets for the fans,” Governor Sakaja announced to the cheering crowd.

The match is scheduled for January 5, 2027, following an announcement by President William Ruto in a recorded address on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The fixture will officially mark the opening of the 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City in Nairobi.

The stadium, named after the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in recognition of his legacy and passion for football, is among the key sporting facilities being prepared ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

The tickets for the Bayern Munich versus Ajax encounter are scheduled to go on sale on November 5, 2026, through the official Talanta Sports City website.

However, Sakaja has yet to provide details on how the 10,000 tickets he has promised to purchase will be distributed among Nairobi residents and other football supporters.
