My Great-grandparents Were Masqueraders, So Walking Into Shrines Was Nothing To Me Growing Up – RMD
Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has stated that his parents fled with him to their village during the Nigerian Civil War
In an interview with Olive Emodi, RMD said his great-grandparents were masqueraders. He said he learned a lot about his ancestral culture and used to walk into shrines while growing up in the village
RMD added that people often told him he looked like his great-grandfather, who was over six feet tall. He said his mother used to sing and dance with him while he was growing up, which helped develop his love for dancing and traditional music
In RMD’s words: “During the civil war we went home like everybody else, we ran to the village. And I was surrounded by culture, my great-grandparents were masqueraders so walking into shrines and all those things was nothing to me. They said my great-grandfather was very tall about 6 feet plus and that I look like him”
