Lola Idije: Not Every Woman Will Have A Husband To Help Raise Children
Veteran Nollywood actress Alhaja Abeni Balogun, popularly known as Lola Idije, has defended single mothers, saying not every woman chooses to raise children without a husband, as some find themselves in such situations due to circumstances beyond their control.
Speaking on the Africanlist Podcast, the actress said women who raise their children alone should not be judged because they are unmarried.
She noted that while some women deliberately choose single motherhood, others are left with the responsibility due to personal or family circumstances.
“Not everybody will have a husband to help them raise their children. So women have to carry their burden alone. Not all of them choose that life,” she said.
Lola Idije added that a woman’s inability to find a husband does not mean she lacks good judgment or does not know what she wants in life.
According to her, women who raise their children alone deserve recognition, noting that some people may not find a suitable partner until they are 40 or 50 years old.
She cautioned against pressuring young women to marry early, questioning whether such pressure could lead them to choose the wrong partners.
The actress further urged the public to stop judging women based on their marital status, stressing that some people find love and get married later in life.
She also spoke about the impact of motherhood on women, saying, “When women start giving birth, they become softer.”
