Kaizer Chiefs Make Several Selection Calls as Da Cruz Names Starting XI

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has named his starting line-up for their latest fixture, with Brandon Petersen returning to the starting XI and several attacking options included as Amakhosi look to secure a positive result.

Petersen will start between the posts, with Bruce Bvuma named among the substitutes. The goalkeeper selection is one of the notable decisions in the Chiefs line-up, as Da Cruz opts for Petersen to take responsibility in goal.

In defence, Reeve Frosler, Inacio Miguel, Moloisane and Mako have been selected to provide the foundation at the back. The defensive unit will be expected to remain organised and limit the opposition’s opportunities, particularly when dealing with attacking transitions.

In midfield, Da Cruz has selected Maboe, Mthethwa, Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala. The combination offers Chiefs different options in possession, with Vilakazi and Shabalala expected to contribute creatively and help connect the midfield with the attacking department.

Mmodi and Wandile Duba complete the starting XI, giving Amakhosi two attacking options tasked with troubling the opposition defence and converting opportunities into goals.

Duba’s inclusion will attract attention following his impressive performance against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout, where he scored a second-half hat-trick to help Chiefs secure a convincing 3-0 victory and progress to the quarter-finals.

The young forward will be hoping to carry that confidence into this encounter and continue making an impact in the final third.

Meanwhile, Da Cruz has several alternatives available on the bench should he need to change the team’s approach during the match.

Bvuma is joined by Kwinika, Rushwin Dortley, Nkgwesa, Sibongiseni Mabaso, Da Silva, Ethan Chislett, Asanele Velebayi and Faiz Abrahams among the substitutes.

The presence of Dortley, Chislett, Velebayi and Abrahams gives the Chiefs coach additional options in different areas of the pitch. Their availability could prove important if the starting players struggle to find a breakthrough or if the match requires fresh attacking energy.

Chiefs will be looking to translate their selection into a strong collective performance. Consistency, defensive discipline and better efficiency in front of goal remain important factors as Da Cruz continues to shape the team.

With Petersen starting, Vilakazi and Shabalala providing creativity, and Duba leading the attacking threat, Amakhosi will be hoping their selected XI can deliver the desired result.

Kaizer Chiefs Starting XI: Petersen, Frosler, Miguel, Moloisane, Mako, Maboe, Mthethwa, Vilakazi, Shabalala, Mmodi, Duba.

Substitutes: Bvuma, Kwinika, Dortley, Nkgwesa, Mabaso, Da Silva, Chislett, Velebayi, Abrahams.
