If Push Comes To Shove I’ll Name Politician Who Tried To Bring Arms With Ship For Militants—Olawunmi

In a newly released episode of State Affairs with Edmund Obilo, shared on the Edmund Obilo Podcast on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi (rtd), a former Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, alleged that a prominent Nigerian politician once attempted to import a shipload of arms from Angola to support militants in the Niger Delta.

Olawunmi said military intelligence uncovered the plan and security operatives seized the ship before the weapons could be brought into the country.

Olawunmi explained that the politician intended to supply the arms to militants involved in activities such as crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and pipeline vandalism.

Olawunmi declined to identify the politician but stated that he would reveal the politician’s name if it becomes necessary.

In Olawunmi’s words: “If push comes to shove I’ll mention the name of the politician, who later became very big in this country, who was arranging to bring in a shipload of arms from Angola for the militancy, for the Niger Delta issue to be able to get more people that can be doing the bunkering and stealing oils and breaking pipes”
