The latest trading figures point to renewed activity among investors, with more than 1.3 million shares changing hands on the final trading day of the week, generating a total market value of GH¢8.64 million.

At the close of trading, a total of 1,307,441 shares had been exchanged across the bourse, representing a market value of GH¢8,635,922.52. This performance marked a substantial improvement over Thursday, October 29, suggesting a notable increase in investor participation and trading interest.

The market’s performance comes as the overall capitalisation of the Ghana Stock Exchange stands at GH¢268.2 billion, equivalent to approximately US$23 billion, reinforcing its position as a significant platform for capital mobilisation and investment activity in Ghana.

The sharp increase in trading volume and turnover provided a strong finish to the week, particularly after the market recorded comparatively lower activity during the preceding session.

The 103% improvement in the number of shares traded indicates that investors were considerably more active, while the 323% increase in turnover reflects the higher monetary value of transactions completed during the session.

Such movements offer an important indication of changing investor activity on the exchange, particularly as market participants continue to assess opportunities across different listed companies.

A total of 28 listed equities participated in trading, with five stocks recording price increases and another five ending the session in negative territory.

Although the number of gainers and losers was evenly matched, the performance of selected equities helped push the broader market higher, allowing the benchmark GSE Composite Index to extend its gains.

The increase in activity also highlights the importance of major listed companies in shaping daily trading patterns, with MTN Ghana emerging as the dominant stock by volume.

SIC Insurance Company emerged as the strongest-performing equity during the session after its share price appreciated by 8.7% to close at GH¢5.00.

The performance placed the insurance company ahead of other advancing stocks and made it the biggest contributor to the session’s list of top-performing equities by percentage gain.

Enterprise Group followed with a 1.2% increase, while MTN Ghana also advanced by 1.2%. Kasapreko recorded a 1.09% appreciation, completing the leading group of gainers.

The positive performance of these companies provided some support for the broader market, particularly as investors continued to position themselves across different sectors of the exchange.

SIC Insurance’s strong price movement is particularly notable because of the relatively wide margin separating its gain from those recorded by other advancing equities.

Meanwhile, MTN Ghana’s positive performance combined with its dominant trading volume to make the telecommunications company one of the most influential stocks during the session.

Despite the broader market’s positive performance, not every listed company enjoyed a favourable trading session.

GCB Bank emerged as the biggest loser after its share price declined by 3.64% to close at GH¢42.08.

The decline placed the banking stock at the bottom of the session’s performance table, highlighting the mixed fortunes confronting investors across the exchange.

Digicut Production & Advertising followed with a 2.5% decline, while Intravenous Infusions recorded a 1.82% depreciation.

Ecobank Transnational also ended the session lower, shedding 0.69% of its share price.

The losses among these equities demonstrate that the market’s overall upward movement did not translate into gains across every segment of the exchange.

The financial sector also experienced some pressure, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index recording a decline despite the positive performance of the broader market.

MTN Ghana maintained its position as the most actively traded equity during the session, recording 821,838 shares.

This represented the largest share of total market volume and placed the telecommunications company significantly ahead of other listed equities.

Enterprise Group followed with 181,960 shares, while Kasapreko recorded 87,510 shares.

CalBank completed the leading four stocks by trading volume, with 74,920 shares exchanged during the session.

The figures highlight the concentration of trading activity among a relatively small group of listed companies, particularly MTN Ghana, which accounted for the overwhelming majority of shares exchanged.

The company’s strong trading activity, alongside its 1.2% share price appreciation, reinforced its importance in the day’s market performance.

Enterprise Group and Kasapreko also featured prominently, combining positive price movements with considerable trading volumes.

The benchmark GSE Composite Index ended the session higher, climbing 55.56 points, equivalent to a 0.39% increase, to close at 14,302.27 points.

The latest advance extended the index’s positive performance across several investment horizons.

On a weekly basis, the GSE Composite Index recorded a 1.38% gain, while its four-week performance stood at 1.64%.

Its year-to-date return also remained impressive at 63.08%, reflecting the substantial appreciation recorded across the broader equities market since the beginning of 2026.

The performance places the benchmark index among the key indicators investors will continue monitoring as the year progresses.

However, the GSE Financial Stocks Index moved in the opposite direction, declining by 0.55% to close at 7,388.15 points.

The financial stocks benchmark recorded a weekly loss of 0.54% and a four-week decline of 0.87%. Despite these setbacks, its year-to-date gain remained strong at 58.98%.

The contrasting movements suggest that while the broader equities market continues to record significant gains, financial stocks are experiencing a different trading trajectory.

With total market capitalisation standing at GH¢268.2 billion, equivalent to US$23 billion, the Ghana Stock Exchange continues to reflect the growing value of listed equities.

The latest trading session adds another positive development to a year in which the GSE Composite Index has delivered a 63.08% return, while the Financial Stocks Index has gained 58.98%.

Nevertheless, the divergence between advancing and declining stocks highlights the importance of individual company performance in determining investment outcomes.

As the exchange moves into the next trading week, investors will be watching whether the strong improvement in trading activity can be sustained and whether the Composite Index can maintain its upward trajectory.

The week’s closing figures have provided fresh evidence of strong market participation, with rising turnover, higher trading volumes and continued gains in the benchmark index giving the Ghana Stock Exchange a positive finish.
