Fresh Fuel Price Hike Sparks Concern Among Kenyan Motorists and Households
Motorists across Kenya are paying more at the pump after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) introduced higher maximum retail prices for the October 15 to November 14, 2026 pricing period.
In Nairobi, a litre of Super Petrol now costs KSh226.96, while Diesel retails at KSh227.76. Kerosene has risen to KSh219.87 per litre. The latest review represents increases of KSh12.93 for petrol, KSh9.90 for diesel and KSh28.49 for kerosene compared with the previous pricing cycle.
The changes are being felt beyond the capital, with prices varying across the country because of transportation and distribution costs. In Meru, EPRA lists Super Petrol at KSh231.61 per litre, Diesel at KSh232.40 and Kerosene at KSh224.51. Motorists in other towns should check the regulator’s location-specific schedule before budgeting for fuel.
The increases are likely to put additional pressure on households, public transport operators, farmers and businesses that depend on road transport. Higher fuel costs can also feed into the prices of goods and services, particularly where transport accounts for a significant share of operating expenses.
EPRA’s monthly pricing system takes into account the cost of imported petroleum products and other components used in calculating the maximum pump prices. Kenya relies on imported refined petroleum, leaving local prices exposed to movements in international oil markets, shipping costs and currency exchange rates.
The regulator’s published rates are maximum retail prices, meaning stations should not charge above the applicable ceiling. The current review remains in force until November 14, when a new schedule is expected.
Consumers are being encouraged to compare prices where appropriate, plan journeys and monitor official EPRA announcements for the next review. Any further changes will depend on the factors considered in the regulator’s next pricing assessment. This could affect fares and delivery charges if operators pass on higher running costs to consumers.
