Four-Year-Old Girl’s Sexual Assault Case Ends With 10-Year Jail Sentence
A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 yearsβ direct imprisonment after being found guilty of raping a four-year-old girl in Dennilton, Limpopo.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, has welcomed the sentence handed down by the Groblersdal Regional Court on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
The accused was convicted of rape in terms of Section 3 of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act 32 of 2007. His identity has been withheld to protect the young victim.
The horrific incident took place in August 2025. According to reports, the little girl was playing with other children when the accused, a person known to her, called her over to where he was sitting behind a house. He allegedly lifted her onto his lap before sexually assaulting her.
Following the incident, the child experienced pain and started crying. She later told her sister what had happened, who then informed their aunt. The family subsequently reported the matter to the police.
The case was investigated by Captain Lekgala Phala from the Groblersdal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. His investigation played a crucial role in securing the accused’s conviction.
Lieutenant General Scheepers praised the investigating officer for his dedication and commitment in ensuring that justice was served for the young victim and her family.
The sentence is another reminder of the importance of protecting children and holding perpetrators of sexual violence accountable.
