EOCO Moves To Seize Wontumi’s Assets, Targets GH¢50 Million Treasury Bills And Akonta Mining Concess
According to a report by TV3Gh, on Saturday October 31, 2026, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has taken steps to confiscate assets belonging to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, including Treasury Bills valued at GH¢50 million and a mining concession operated by Akonta Mining Limited.
The development forms part of ongoing legal proceedings involving Wontumi and allegations connected to the Exim Bank fraud case, which has brought his business interests and financial dealings under increased scrutiny.
EOCO is seeking the court’s approval to take control of the identified assets as part of efforts to recover properties believed to be connected to the matters under investigation.
Among the assets reportedly targeted are Treasury Bills worth GH¢50 million, representing a significant financial investment, as well as the Akonta Mining concession, which is associated with the mining company owned by the NPP politician.
The move signals another major development in the legal challenges confronting Wontumi, whose business activities have attracted considerable public attention following investigations into alleged financial irregularities.
The proposed confiscation has also renewed discussions about the role of state investigative agencies in tracing, preserving and recovering assets linked to suspected financial crimes.
However, the final decision on whether the assets should be forfeited rests with the court, which is expected to examine EOCO’s application and the legal arguments presented by the parties involved.
The proceedings are expected to determine whether the identified properties meet the legal requirements for confiscation and whether EOCO can proceed with its request.
The case continues to attract attention because of Wontumi’s political position, his involvement in the mining industry and the substantial value of the assets identified in the application.
As the legal process unfolds, the court’s eventual determination will be crucial in establishing the fate of the GH¢50 million Treasury Bills and the Akonta Mining concession.
