Dzifa Gunu Questions TV3 Report On Kofi Bentil’s Remarks Regarding State Responses To Tragedies
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the New Patriotic Party’s Director of Communications, has called on the National Democratic Congress government to stop blaming former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and focus on its own efforts to combat illegal mining.
During an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Aboagye questioned why the previous administration continued to feature in discussions about the country’s ongoing galamsey crisis.
He noted that the NDC had governed Ghana for 24 months and should be held responsible for the progress or lack of progress made in addressing illegal mining.
Aboagye said the governing party had made numerous commitments to tackle galamsey during the 2024 election campaign, creating expectations that it had an effective plan to deal with the problem.
He also recalled how the NDC and its supporters strongly criticised the Akufo-Addo administration over illegal mining, including organising protests in Accra. He argued that the current government should now account for its own performance rather than directing attention towards its predecessor.
The NPP communicator further alleged that the NDC had contributed to the galamsey problem since 2009, insisting that illegal mining had become worse during periods when the party held power.
He cited comments reportedly made by former Environment Minister Mahama Ayariga in 2013, which highlighted the difficulties of fighting illegal mining and the alleged involvement of influential figures.
Aboagye insisted that the current administration had yet to show enough determination to end the practice. Comparing the two governments, he claimed that the Mahama administration had failed to achieve even 50 per cent of the results recorded under Akufo-Addo.
He therefore urged the NDC to provide concrete evidence of its progress and show Ghanaians that it was serious about ending illegal mining.
