Chiefs Predicted XI Reveals Key Changes For Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz faces a difficult defensive selection decision as Amakhosi prepare to take on Orlando Pirates in the first Soweto Derby of the season at FNB Stadium this afternoon.

The biggest uncertainty surrounds Rushwin Dortley, who recently returned to competitive action after spending a lengthy period on the sidelines. His availability gives Da Cruz another option at centre-back, but whether the defender is ready to handle the intensity of the derby remains a major consideration.

Dortley played the full 90 minutes in Chiefs’ 3-0 Carling Knockout Cup victory over TS Galaxy in the last 16. He also helped the team secure a clean sheet and displayed the passing ability that makes him an option on the left side of central defence.

However, facing Pirates presents a different challenge. The Buccaneers have attacking players capable of using their speed to put defenders under pressure, making the decision to start a recently returned player particularly important.

Should Da Cruz decide against including Dortley from the beginning, Inacio Miguel could come into the starting line-up. Miguel was not part of the matchday squad for the victory over TS Galaxy and remains an alternative for the defensive position.

Brandon Petersen is expected to retain his place in goal, while Reeve Frosler and Paseka Mako are likely to occupy the full-back positions. Thabo Moloisane is another expected member of the backline.

In midfield, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Lebohang Maboe are tipped to provide the central partnership. Mduduzi Shabalala could operate in the number 10 role, linking the midfield with the attacking players.

Mfundo Vilakazi and Pule Mmodi are also expected to feature on the wings as Chiefs look to create opportunities against their Soweto rivals.

Wandile Duba is tipped to lead the attack after delivering an impressive performance against TS Galaxy. The striker scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win, giving Da Cruz a strong reason to retain him as the team’s number nine.

The predicted Chiefs starting XI is Brandon Petersen, Reeve Frosler, Thabo Moloisane, Inacio Miguel, Paseka Mako, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe, Pule Mmodi, Mfundo Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba.

Dortley’s possible inclusion remains the selection issue to watch as Chiefs prepare for a derby that will test their defensive organisation and attacking approach.
