Bulldog Says Abeiku Santana Should Have Been GTA CEO, Not Deputy

Ghanaian entertainment pundit Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog, has questioned the decision to appoint media personality and tourism entrepreneur Abeiku Santana as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), arguing that he deserved the top position instead.

Bulldog believes Santana’s extensive experience in the tourism industry and his contributions to promoting Ghana as a tourist destination make him a suitable candidate for the Chief Executive Officer role. He considers the decision to place him in the deputy position a missed opportunity to fully utilise his expertise.

Santana, whose real name is Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, was appointed Deputy CEO in February 2025 by President John Dramani Mahama following the National Democratic Congress’ return to power. He serves under CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto, with responsibilities covering marketing and special duties.

Aside from his broadcasting career, Santana has built a strong presence in Ghana’s tourism sector. He is the founder of Kaya Tours Ghana Limited and holds master’s degrees in Tourism Management from the University of Cape Coast and Marketing Strategy from the University of Ghana Business School.

Bulldog’s comments come at a time when the authority has attracted public attention over reported disagreements between its two leading executives. Santana recently petitioned the Tourism Minister over alleged difficulties in securing meetings with Houadjeto to discuss urgent operational matters.

The CEO has disputed the claims and proposed additional communication arrangements to improve coordination.

Meanwhile, Bulldog’s position has renewed conversations about leadership appointments and the utilisation of experienced professionals in public institutions. His argument is that Santana’s background in tourism entrepreneurship, industry advocacy and destination marketing should have been considered for the authority’s highest office rather than a supporting leadership role.
