Airtel Nigeria Deploys Over 1,000 New 5G Sites in 2026

Airtel Nigeria has announced the deployment of more than 1,000 additional fifth-generation (5G) network sites in 2026 as part of efforts to improve internet connectivity and strengthen telecommunications services across the country.

According to PUNCH Newspapers, Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Dinesh Balsingh, disclosed the development on Friday during the launch of Airtel Open Network, a new feature designed to improve customers’ access to network performance information.

Balsingh explained that the expansion was part of the company’s continuing investment in telecommunications infrastructure to meet growing demand for faster internet services.

He revealed that Airtel added more than 1,050 network sites during its last financial year, bringing its total number of sites nationwide to over 17,000.

The company said the additional 5G installations would support improved connectivity for Nigerians who depend on mobile networks for business transactions, education, communication and other digital activities.

The initiative is expected to help the company identify service challenges and respond more effectively to customer complaints.

Nigeria’s telecommunications industry continues to experience increasing demand for reliable mobile data as businesses and individuals adopt more internet-based services.

However, the deployment of additional network sites does not automatically guarantee improved service quality in every location. Actual performance will depend on coverage, network capacity and other technical conditions.

The development also highlights the importance of telecommunications investment in supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
