After I was stabbed multiple times, Matthew ordered my sister-in-law to pull off her dress- Victim

A victim of suspected armed robbers arrested by the Oyo State Police Command, Alhaji Wahab Olatokunbo (surname withheld), has recounted how the gang allegedly invaded his home, killed his wife and left him with serious injuries.

According to Nigerian Tribune, Wahab also narrated how the attackers allegedly attempted to sexually assault his wife’s younger sisters, whom he regarded as his children. He said their actions prompted him to raise an alarm despite his injuries, disrupting their plans.

The newspaper had reported the arrest of three suspects, identified as Matthew, Tobi and Ibrahim, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit over attacks in Wofun, Olodo area of Ibadan, and Moniya.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspects allegedly killed Wahab’s wife, Mrs Rukayat, stabbed him repeatedly, attempted to rape members of the family and stole foreign currencies, phones and other valuables. One of the suspects, Matthew, reportedly admitted killing the woman.

Wahab, a travel consultant and vehicle dealer, said the attack occurred around 3am on August 4, 2026, while he was at home with his wife, two children and two sisters-in-law.

He explained that he woke up after hearing the bedroom mosquito-net door open and saw his wife followed by two armed men, later identified as Matthew and Tobi. He said the attackers had entered through the kitchen window after his wife went to investigate a noise.

According to him, the men were armed with knives, cutlasses and a pestle. He said Matthew attempted to hit his head with the pestle, but he blocked the first blow with his left hand and fractured it while trying to resist a second attack.

Wahab alleged that Matthew ordered Tobi to stab him fatally, while he continued pleading for his life. He said Tobi began stabbing him as he struggled to stop the attack, while Matthew struck his head repeatedly with a machete and cutlass, threatening him in the process.

He added that Matthew later struck him on the thigh, close to his private part, while the two men continued stabbing him, leaving him severely injured. His intestines were exposed, and his right knee was also struck with the pestle.

Wahab said the attackers turned on his wife when they thought he was no longer moving. He initially believed she had fainted after she stopped responding and slumped to the ground.

He added that the suspects searched the house and escaped with seven mobile phones, $400 and his car key. They also attempted to take two laptops but abandoned them.

Wahab continued: “After my ordeal, Matthew went to the children’s room and told them: ‘we have killed your father. Don’t allow your lives to be wasted.’ He asked my sisters-in-law for their phones. I was already blinded by my own blood but peeped to identify Tobi in case I survive. Matthew kept returning to kick me to know if I had died.

“The next thing was that Matthew ordered one of my sisters-in-law to pull off her dress as he wanted to have sex with her. She replied him that she was menstruating, and he confirmed it, disclosing that he watched her from the bathroom window when she had a bath and changed the sanitary pad she previously used to a fresh one.”

“Tobi ordered her back into a room to lie down. Matthew removed his boxers and became naked from waist down. Tobi did the same, aiming at the second sister.”

Wahab said that despite his injuries, he managed to crawl out of the house and raise an alarm after the robbers broke into the room where his children and sisters-in-law had taken refuge. He said his intervention disrupted the attackers’ alleged attempt to sexually assault the women, forcing them to flee and abandon some of their belongings.

He added that his wife, Mrs Rukayat, died after Matthew allegedly stabbed her three times in the chest. His children later found her at the toilet doorway, where she reportedly died in their arms.

Wahab said three hospitals rejected him before he received first aid at a fourth facility. He was later transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where doctors operated on him. He disclosed that his condition was critical, with his packed cell volume dropping to 21 per cent, and that the attack also affected his intestines and spine.

He said doctors warned that he had only a 50-50 chance of survival and advised him to seek medical attention if he experienced headaches.

Wahab lamented that the robbers could have taken the family’s valuables or demanded money, which he would have willingly given them, instead of killing his wife.
