40-year-old man arrested at VIP bus terminal attempting to travel with 91 parcels of โweeโ hidden in 3 suitcases
A 40-year-old man, Roger Borbobli, has been arrested by the police for allegedly possessing 91 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp (wee).
He was arrested at the VIP Bus Terminal at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
It followed a tip off that the suspect had been sighted at the terminal with three suitcases containing the suspected substances.
Police preliminary investigations suggest that some loading boys at the bus terminal detected the smell on the suitcases and alerted the police.
A police statement said some officers from the special operations team subsequently proceeded to the scene, arrested the suspect and retrieved the three suitcases containing 91 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect reportedly valued the substances at GHยข33,600, according to the police statement.
The police said during interrogation, Borbobli indicated to them that he was a farmer from Sovie Kudzra, near Kpando in the Volta Region.
He reportedly told investigators that he cultivated Indian hemp himself but had acquired the parcels in his possession from another farmer identified as Benjamin, from the same community.
The suspect is in police custody assisting with investigations while the police are awaiting the outcome of a test on the exhibits at the Police Forensic Crime Laboratory after an analytical examination.
