Zimbabwean Giants Target Namibian Star: Lawrence Doeseb Attracts Attention After Impressing Against Orlando Pirates
Zimbabwean football giants Ngezi Platinum FC have reportedly expressed interest in Namibian international Lawrence Doeseb, who has attracted attention following his impressive performances for African Stars in the CAF Champions League.
The 23-year-old midfielder has emerged as a player to watch after catching the eye of several clubs in South Africa and the surrounding region. His displays against Orlando Pirates over both legs of their continental encounter have helped put his name on the radar of potential suitors.
According to a report by iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco, Ngezi Platinum have made an inquiry about the African Stars midfielder as they consider strengthening their squad ahead of the next campaign.
However, the situation is still at an early stage. No formal offer has been submitted to African Stars, and there have been no negotiations between the clubs over a possible transfer.
Ngezi Platinum head coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva is understood to be interested in bringing Doeseb to Zimbabwe as part of his plans for the team.
The Zimbabwean outfit has been working to strengthen its squad after facing challenges in the transfer market. The club’s recruitment plans are particularly important as it looks to remain competitive in domestic football and improve its prospects in continental competitions.
Doeseb’s performances appear to have made him an attractive option. His experience with African Stars, combined with his exposure to CAF Champions League football, could make him a valuable addition to a team seeking quality and depth in midfield.
Nevertheless, interest does not automatically mean a transfer is close. African Stars have yet to receive an official bid, meaning several important steps would need to be completed before any move could materialise.
Doeseb’s growing reputation has been boosted by his performances against Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League.
Facing a recognised South African club on the continental stage provided an opportunity for the Namibian midfielder to demonstrate his abilities against stronger opposition.
His displays attracted attention beyond Namibia, with clubs in neighbouring countries reportedly monitoring his progress.
For African Stars, retaining an influential midfielder could be important as the Namibian champions continue building their squad. At the same time, interest from clubs in Zimbabwe and South Africa could present Doeseb with opportunities to test himself in a different football environment.
Doeseb’s progress has also been recognised at national-team level. The midfielder has been named in Namibia’s squad for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Cameroon scheduled for November.
International involvement would provide another opportunity for him to gain valuable experience and strengthen his profile.
