A video of her addressing staff in the newsroom on Wednesday quickly made the rounds, showing an emotional anchor who paused to collect herself more than once during the speech.

Before anything else, Okwara was direct about one thing: her departure had nothing to do with someone by the initials LMM.

She also put to rest any rumours about a move into government circles.

The tone shifted from firm to warm as she wrapped up with a message of appreciation for the team she was leaving behind.

The moment that is likely to stay with viewers came near the end, when Okwara turned her farewell into something of a rallying call ahead of Kenya's next general election.

Her acknowledgement that 2027 would be a defining moment, paired with her confidence in the team she was leaving behind, gave the farewell a significance beyond the personal.

Okwara's exit marks the end of a significant era at Citizen TV, where she was widely regarded as one of the most authoritative voices in Kenyan broadcast journalism.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that Yvonne secured a new position as Head of Investments and Partnerships at Shuga Global.

Her appointment marks a shift from broadcasting to strategic leadership within the international nonprofit sector.

Although her salary remains undisclosed, industry estimates suggest she could earn a substantial monthly package.
