Tension Brews in ODM as Prominent Figure Dumps the Party to Join Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi

Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi political camp has received another boost after a senior politician announced his decision to leave his former party and work with the Nairobi Senator ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi is among the latest politicians to join Sifuna’s political camp after resigning from his position as Deputy Party Leader of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

Wamunyinyi announced his decision on October 21, saying he had taken time to reflect and consult before choosing to work alongside Sifuna.

He explained that his decision was influenced by what he described as Sifuna’s commitment to speaking about the challenges facing ordinary Kenyans, including small-scale traders, young people, boda boda operators and farmers.

The former legislator also made it clear that he was not leaving DAP-K because of personal differences with party leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Instead, he urged Wamalwa to put aside his political ambitions and join the growing team supporting Sifuna.

His move comes at a time when Sifuna is strengthening his political organisation following his fallout with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

On Friday, October 30, Sifuna officially launched the Linda Mwananchi Party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, in an event attended by several opposition leaders.

Among those present were former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa.

During the launch, Sifuna unveiled a proposed leadership team that includes former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

The party also announced plans to hold a National Delegates Convention on November 13 to ratify its leadership.

Wamunyinyi’s defection adds to the growing political realignments as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

With Sifuna now leading a new political party, many will be watching to see which other politicians join his camp.
