“Support The Young” – Malala Tells Kalonzo As Wiper Fires Back In Bitter Opposition Showdown

Cleophas Malala has renewed his appeal to Kalonzo Musyoka to back Edwin Sifuna for the presidency. The move has exposed deep cracks within the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Friday the DCP deputy leader insisted that he was not disrespecting the Wiper leader. “I respect you but I am asking you to support the young generation” Malala said. The remarks followed his earlier push for Kalonzo to endorse the Nairobi senator’s presidential ambitions.

Days earlier Malala announced that DCP would meet Kalonzo to persuade him to support Sifuna. He claimed that he and party leader Rigathi Gachagua had already aligned behind the Linda Mwananchi figure.

He explained that the outreach was meant to build a broader opposition ticket that could challenge President William Ruto. He argued that Western Kenya alone could not deliver the presidency without alliances across regions including Mount Kenya.

Wiper wasted no time in responding. Spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru dismissed Malala as a playwright rather than a serious political actor. He accused the DCP deputy leader of driving a divisive knife through the heart of the opposition.

Njiru also urged the media to treat the claims with contempt. He rejected any suggestion that Wiper was being courted to place Kalonzo’s ambitions below those of Sifuna.

The exchange points to competing visions within the opposition. Malala has consistently presented Sifuna as a viable young flag-bearer who deserves wider support. Wiper on the other hand has pushed back against endorsements that appear to sideline its leader.

Analysts warn that the public friction could complicate efforts to form a united front. Leaders continue to jostle for influence as coalition talks take shape and personal ambitions test the opposition months before candidate selection.
