Sh110 Million for This?” DCP Ally Reactions After Visiting Raila’s Mausoleum At Kang’o Ka Jaramongi

A politician from Rigathi Gachagua’s inner circle has walked into the Odinga family home, and he did not keep quiet about what he found there. Kenneth Njohi, popularly known as Councillor Njohi and chief social media strategist to the DCP leader, travelled to Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo to honour the late Raila Odinga. He then toured the new mausoleum and described it as an eyesore and a rip-off.

Njohi first paid tribute to Raila, calling him a good man who sacrificed a great deal for Kenya. Then he turned to the structure standing over the grave. He said it cost Sh110 million, argued that it could not have cost more than Sh4 million, and accused President William Ruto, whom he calls “Kasongo,” of using Baba’s name in death to steal from Kenyans. These are Njohi’s claims alone. The project was announced as a Sh30 million job to be carried out by the Kenya Defence Forces.

The visit is politically charged because of the history behind it. After Raila’s death, ODM said it would not engage politically with any outfit linked to Gachagua, following remarks it called divisive.Gachagua had not visited the grave in Bondo, even though other opposition leaders already had. Njohi’s trip therefore stands out as a gesture from a camp that ODM had accused of staying away.

Beyond the grave, the two parties are fighting for the same ground. DCP has beaten ODM in ward by-elections, including Kariobangi North and Narok Township, and Gachagua has claimed that neither UDA nor ODM will win a single seat in Nairobi. ODM has fired back. In August, its chairperson Gladys Wanga told Gachagua to respect Raila and stop mocking the Luo community after he questioned the circumstances of Raila’s death.

Njohi also spoke about the tomb itself. He said stones were placed on top of it in a symbolic act, so that when the trumpet sounds, Raila will rise holding a stone. He ended with a Swahili jibe at the locals: “Hapo Bondo wanasema wao ndio Sifuna.”
