“Raila Supporters Were Arrogant Like Sifuna’s” – Renown Lawyer Warns Sifuna After Kalonzo Was Booed

Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has said the late Raila Odinga failed to become President five times because his core supporters were arrogant and rude. He made the remark on X on Friday October 30 and it has drawn wide debate online.

Kipkorir said Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna must make sure his own supporters do not repeat the same mistake. His message came hours after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was heckled at the Linda Mwananchi Movement headquarters launch in Lavington.

Kalonzo was booed after he cautioned against declaring Sifuna the opposition presidential candidate too early. Chants of Sifuna and President Sifuna drowned out his speech and he cut it short.

The lawyer’s post has attracted hundreds of reactions. Some users agreed with him and said Sifuna must tame his supporters. One user said he had told the senator many times to control them.

Others disagreed strongly. One user said rudeness was not the reason Raila never became President. Another said the votes were stolen and not lost because of supporters. He asked Kipkorir to be fair to Raila and his loyalists.

The incident also stirs old memories for Kalonzo. Before the 2007 election he was shouted down by Raila’s supporters at an ODM-K rally in Mombasa. Musalia Mudavadi later wrote that the incident split the opposition and that things were never the same again.

The latest booing has now become an early test for opposition unity ahead of 2027. Leaders are searching for one flag bearer to face President William Ruto.

Kipkorir’s warning shows how worried some leaders are about the mood at the grassroots. Many feel that respect for senior leaders will decide whether the opposition stays together or falls apart.
