Ouaddou Shows Respect for Kaizer Chiefs Coach Da Cruz Ahead of Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed admiration for the work being done by Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated Soweto Derby.

The two Soweto giants are preparing to face each other in a crucial Betway Premiership encounter, with both sides eager to secure victory and claim bragging rights over their biggest rivals. However, Ouaddou’s positive comments about his opposite number have added an interesting dimension to the build-up.

Despite managing rival teams, the Pirates coach has acknowledged Da Cruz’s efforts at Chiefs, demonstrating that professional respect can exist even in one of South African football’s fiercest rivalries.

The Soweto Derby remains one of the biggest events on the country’s football calendar, attracting enormous attention from supporters, football analysts and the wider sporting community. Matches between Pirates and Chiefs are rarely ordinary encounters, as the outcome often has a significant impact on the confidence and morale of both teams.

Da Cruz has been working to improve consistency at Kaizer Chiefs as the club continues its efforts to regain its position among South Africa’s leading teams. His performances and results have attracted scrutiny, with supporters expecting noticeable progress.

Ouaddou’s recognition of his work could therefore be viewed as an indication that the Chiefs coach’s efforts are being noticed beyond Naturena.

Nevertheless, mutual respect between the two coaches will count for little once the match begins. Both Pirates and Chiefs will be determined to emerge victorious, knowing that derby success means much more than collecting three league points.

Ultimately, the team that manages the pressure, executes its game plan and takes its opportunities could walk away with the victory.
