OBJ:He Met The Leader Of B’Haram, Negotiated With Them, And They Agreed To A Ceasefire For 27 Days-Gumi

In an interview on PAPShow on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, discussed Nigeria’s security challenges, referring to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s reported negotiations with the leader of Boko Haram and an alleged agreement for a temporary ceasefire.

Gumi made the remarks while discussing efforts to address insurgency and the different approaches that have been considered in seeking peace. He referred to Obasanjo’s reported meeting with the group’s leader, during which an agreement was allegedly reached to suspend hostilities for a limited period.

According to Gumi, “He met the leader of Boko Haram, negotiated with them, and they agreed to a ceasefire for 27 days.” He made the statement while discussing the role of negotiations in addressing Nigeria’s longstanding security challenges.

The Islamic cleric’s remarks highlighted the debate over whether dialogue with armed groups can contribute to reducing violence.
