NPP Minority pursuing partisan agenda under guise of accountability – Awudu Ishaq

General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Awudu Ishaq, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament of using its press conferences to advance partisan political interests rather than genuinely holding the government accountable.

He argued that the opposition’s public statements and criticisms appear to be driven by the interests of the NPP rather than a commitment to addressing issues affecting Ghanaians.

Speaking to Arafat Musah on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Mr Awudu Ishaq questioned whether the Minority’s repeated press conferences were genuinely intended to serve the public interest or to advance the political agenda of the party.

He maintained that he does not see the NPP speaking on behalf of Ghanaians but rather using its platform to promote the interests of the party.

“This press conference specially on the part of the New Patriotic Party, which is minority in Parliament. I don’t see the NPP talking for Ghanaians. I see the NPP talking for the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

According to him, the opposition’s approach to raising concerns about government activities reflects what he considers a partisan agenda rather than a genuine interest in accountability for the country.

Mr Ishaq stressed that the purpose of holding government accountable should be to demand answers, draw attention to legitimate concerns and ensure that public officials act in the interest of citizens.

He further questioned the motivation behind the Minority’s press conferences, arguing that their criticisms should be driven by the need to address national concerns rather than advance party interests.

Mr Ishaq maintained that the Minority must demonstrate that its criticisms are driven by genuine national concerns and a commitment to accountability, rather than partisan interests, stressing that press conferences should serve as a platform for demanding answers on behalf of Ghanaians and not merely advancing party agendas.
