“Let Baba Rest In Peace” PS Karugu Blasts Gachagua for Dragging Late Raila Into His Political Feuds
Principal Secretary for East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Dr. Caroline W. Karugu, has sharply criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, telling him to stop dragging the name of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga into his political battles.
Speaking on Friday, October 30, 2026, Dr. Karugu defended the legacy of Raila, and cautioned Gachagua against attempting to disrupt the historical bridge-building efforts and the existing unity between the Kikuyu and Luo communities.
The Principal Secretary challenged the former Deputy President to show courage by confronting his own political crises independently rather than using the name of the deceased politician to score sympathy or political mileage.
“Rigathi, if you are looking for a political fight, find your match elsewhere, but leave Raila Odinga out of it,” Karugu stated emphatically. “Do not dare us about Raila’s legacy on the Kikuyu–Luo nations! Raila was a bridge-builder, not the architect of division. Have the courage to fight your own battles without dragging his name into them. Let BABA Rest In Peace!” Karugu said.
This remark comes after Gachagua stated that the Kikuyu community has never had any problem with the Luo nation. Speaking during an exclusive interview on KTN News on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Gachagua argued that the two regions only found themselves in political friction because they fronted competing presidential candidates from 2007 through to 2022, with Raila consistently standing as an opponent to the political choices preferred by Mount Kenya voters.
Karugu served as the Deputy Chief Agent of Raila in the 2022 presidential election, focusing her efforts entirely on managing the coalition’s national campaign secretariat and vote protection strategy.
