Kumasi Mayor King Zuba Clashes With Bantama MP Asenso Boakye Over Abrepo Junction Traders’ Eviction
A disagreement has reportedly broken out between Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, popularly known as King Zuba, and the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, during a parliamentary committee hearing concerning the eviction of traders around Abrepo Junction in the Ashanti Region.
According to a Kessben TV report published on Friday, October 30, 2026, the confrontation occurred during proceedings organised by Parliament’s Committee on Local Government and Rural Development, where both officials were invited to address concerns surrounding the removal of traders from the area.
The hearing was intended to examine issues relating to the eviction exercise, which has generated public concern because of its impact on traders whose businesses depend on commercial activities around Abrepo Junction.
However, tensions reportedly increased when the Kumasi mayor and the Bantama legislator expressed opposing positions on the matter, resulting in a heated exchange during the committee proceedings.
The eviction exercise has attracted attention as the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly continues efforts to regulate trading activities and improve the management of public spaces within the metropolis.
While local authorities have responsibilities to maintain order and ensure that public spaces are properly utilised, the exercise has also raised concerns about the financial difficulties traders may face following their removal from familiar business locations.
Many of the affected traders depend on their daily sales to provide for themselves and their families, making the issue particularly important to their livelihoods.
The disagreement between King Zuba and Asenso-Boakye has consequently brought renewed attention to the relationship between local government authorities and lawmakers when decisions involving public spaces and commercial activities are being implemented.
Footage of the encounter was reportedly shared by Parliament of Ghana, showing the exchange during the committee hearing.
The incident has since generated public discussion, with attention focused on the eviction exercise and the differing positions taken by the Kumasi mayor and the Bantama MP.
