Kokopee Breaks Down What Happened Behind Davido And VDM’s Broken Friendship

Kokopee has explained why he eventually decided to distance himself from the disagreement between Davido and VeryDarkMan, despite making efforts to help both men settle their differences.

The musician, who is close to the controversial activist, said he had nothing to do with the beginning of their friendship. He was neither present when the two first became friends nor involved when Davido invited VDM to Lagos to spend time with him. However, when problems started affecting their relationship, he found himself caught in the middle.

According to Kokopee, VDM contacted him privately to complain about something Davido had done. He listened but felt it would be inappropriate to interfere directly in a disagreement between two adults. Instead, he suggested that VDM speak with either Israel or Ubi to address the issue.

Davido also reached out to him separately to discuss what had happened. Kokopee said he tried to make the singer understand why VDM might have felt hurt by his actions, but Davido did not see things the same way.

He recalled being very direct with the singer, insisting that he understood VDM well enough to recognise when the activist felt let down by someone he considered a friend.

“When Davido and VDM started their friendship, I wasn’t there. When Davido invited him to Lagos to hang out, I wasn’t there. But when the friendship was about to sink, I was there.

“From what I know, VDM once called me to express his displeasure over something Davido did. When two people are discussing issues in their relationship, I can’t interfere. So, I advised VDM to reach out to Israel or Ubi. Davido also reached out to me to discuss the issue. I explained to him what he might have done that made VDM feel betrayed in their friendship, but Davido disagreed with me. I told him, ‘David, listen carefully. I know VDM very well, and he feels betrayed.’

“I then spoke to VDM to explain Davido’s side of things. There was a lot of back and forth. The next thing I heard was VeryDarkMan asking why I was carrying Davido’s matter on my head and whether Davido had promised me a free collaboration for my music. To avoid people saying I was betraying VDM, I decided to step back and leave the matter there.

“Two adults who are friends will always have their differences and agree to disagree. When the two of them are talking, I stay out of it. Privately, I advise VDM to manage the situation well with Davido. I can only offer advice; I can’t force them to do anything. Meanwhile, I’m promoting my music online, and people keep saying all sorts of things about me and coming for me.”

Kokopee maintained that he has no intention of getting caught up in the disagreement again, as he believes Davido and VDM are old enough to sort things out themselves. For him, offering advice is all he can do, and he would rather concentrate on his music than remain in the middle of their personal issues.
