King Mswati III Reportedly Set to Marry South African Religious Leader’s Daughter as His 16th Wife

King Mswati III of Eswatini has once again become a topic of discussion after reports emerged that he is preparing to marry another woman, who is reportedly the daughter of a prominent South African religious leader.

The woman at the centre of the reports has been identified as Nontokozo Shembe, the daughter of Shembe church leader Mduduzi Nyazilwezulu Shembe, also known as Unyazi LweZulu. If the reported marriage goes ahead, it would attract considerable attention because of the connection between the royal family and one of South Africa’s well-known religious families.

According to reports, traditional marriage negotiations between the two families have reportedly advanced, with sources claiming that lobola has already been paid. There are also claims that Nontokozo visited Eswatini between 28 August and 4 September 2026.

Her reported visit coincided with the annual uMhlanga Reed Dance ceremony, which takes place at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence. Reports suggest that she was expected to be introduced publicly as the King’s prospective bride during the ceremony, but the introduction was allegedly postponed.

However, the royal family has not officially confirmed the reported marriage.

When asked about the matter, King Mswati III’s spokesperson, Percy Simelane, reportedly described it as a family affair and said he could not speak about the royal family’s intentions.

The news has attracted attention partly because of the King’s previous marriage to Nomcebo Zuma, the daughter of former South African president Jacob Zuma. Their relationship also generated considerable public interest when she became part of the Eswatini royal household in 2024.

Meanwhile, social media users have been discussing the latest reports, with some expressing surprise and others sharing humorous reactions.

For now, the reported marriage plans remain unconfirmed by both the palace and the Shembe family. Nevertheless, the possibility of another royal wedding has placed King Mswati III and Nontokozo Shembe in the spotlight.
