I’m the Kwame Nkrumah of my time—John Mahama

Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that he is the Kwame Nkrumah of his time.

According to him, before Ghana’s first president died, he said there would be several people of his kind in the future.

Therefore, since he believes in the ideals of the first president, he will continue to pursue his vision and philosophy for Africa.

“When Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown, and he went into exile, and he was ill and dying, he said that they might have gotten rid of him, but there are many Kwame Nkrumahs who will follow.

I can say that, for us growing up, we were inspired by him, and so when he made the reference that many Kwame Nkrumahs were coming after, I think that he was referring to people like me because I believe in him and his vision and philosophy of pan-Africanism and African unity and as long as I remain president, that will continue to be my vision,” he said.

He noted that Nkrumah’s vision has its risks; however, he is prepared to accept them as far as it is in the interest of the country he serves.

The President indicated that now it is imperative that Ghana takes advantage of the resources the country is blessed with to create prosperity for the people.

“We must take advantage of the resources that God has blessed us with to create prosperity for our people. So if that annoys people or if somebody’s ox is gourd, I really don’t care. It is about the people I serve, and as long as I continue to remain in office, I will do the right thing by the people of Ghana, not because of somebody else’s interest,” he said.
