FKF Calls Special General Meeting to Resolve Executive Wrangles Between President Mohamed and Mariga

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has convened a Special General Meeting (SGM) scheduled for November 7, 2026, in Meru, as efforts intensify to address disagreements between federation president Hussein Mohamed and his deputy, McDonald Mariga.

The meeting is expected to provide a platform for delegates to discuss the leadership disputes and seek ways to restore cooperation within the federation’s top leadership. It will be guided by Isaac Mwangi, with the wider objective of ensuring that internal disagreements do not disrupt football administration in the country.

According to federation representatives, the meeting was initiated by FKF delegates after earlier efforts to reconcile the leadership failed. Organisers have emphasised that the SGM is member-driven and is not intended to focus exclusively on the president and his deputy.

Instead, delegates are expected to review the collective accountability of all members of the National Executive Committee (NEC). The approach would allow elected officials to respond to concerns raised by the members they represent and address questions about the federation’s leadership and administration.

Officials said restoring a functional working relationship at the top of FKF was important for the continued development of football in Kenya.

“The meeting will be determined to return the good working relationship that the federation tops had. We have a lot at stake, and football needs to continue the vibrancy that we once had,” officials said.

The organisers have also invited representatives from international and continental football governing bodies, including FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to observe the proceedings.

The invitation is intended to promote transparency as delegates consider the concerns raised within the federation. Organisers also hope the meeting will provide an internal avenue for resolving the disputes and reduce the likelihood of prolonged legal battles.

The November 7 meeting will therefore bring FKF delegates and executive officials together to consider the leadership disagreements and the broader accountability of the federation’s national executive.
