Bayern Munich vs Ajax: Fans react to Talanta Stadium unveiling and Raila Odinga Stadium renaming

Football fans in Nairobi have shared their reactions to the planned friendly match between German giants Bayern Munich and Dutch side Ajax, which is expected to mark the opening of the newly renamed Raila Odinga International Stadium in January 2027.

Speaking to TV47 reporter Ethan Kuki on the streets of Nairobi, fans expressed excitement about the opportunity to watch some of Europe’s top football teams play in Kenya. Others said they would have liked local clubs to feature in the stadium’s opening event.

One supporter welcomed the prospect of seeing international stars play on Kenyan soil, pointing to Bayern Munich’s reputation in European football and the possibility of watching players such as Harry Kane in action.

“The moment you bring Bayern, these are people who play top world football,” the fan said. “Everyone would want to play where stars will be playing.”

For many supporters, hosting two established European clubs would give Kenya greater international exposure and provide an opportunity to attract football fans from across East Africa.

Bayern Munich have a long history in European football, including six UEFA Champions League titles, while Ajax have won the competition four times. Their proposed meeting would therefore bring two clubs with significant European pedigrees to Nairobi.
