Speaking during the launch of Linda Mwananchi Movement Party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Friday, October 30, 2026, Kalonzo appeared to take issue with DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa for seemingly endorsing Sifuna’s presidential ambitions before the formal nomination process, reminding the Nairobi Senator that he would have to wait until November 13 to be officially declared a presidential candidate.

“In fact, my brother Eugene has jumped the gun. He has declared you a presidential candidate. Let me tell you, legally, because you’re a lawyer, you have to wait for the 13th of November,” Kalonzo said.

His remarks attracted an unfavourable reaction from some members of the audience, with the Wiper leader appearing to face resistance as he attempted to explain his position.

The former vice president subsequently challenged the crowd, asking whether they wanted him to continue addressing them or whether he should stop speaking.

“Do you want me to speak? Ama niwache? Linda Mwananchi?” he posed.

The incident prompted Sifuna to intervene, urging the audience to respect the visiting opposition leaders and allow them to address the gathering.

“Nimewaambia hata nyinyi siku moja mtajipata kwa ofisi ya Wiper. This is not a way to treat our guests. Just let us listen to them. We have been honoured by their presence,” Sifuna said.

Kalonzo, however, maintained that his remarks were intended to encourage Sifuna to follow the proper political and legal procedures rather than undermine his presidential ambitions.

He further disclosed that he had already received the mandate to seek the presidency through a Wiper delegates conference held on October 10, 2025, insisting that he expected the younger opposition leaders to exercise patience as discussions on the 2027 succession continued.

“I want you to know that on the 10th of October last year, at a delegates conference, I was given the mandate to run for president. So be patient. I want my younger brother to follow the proper procedure. Nothing else,” he added.

Despite the disagreement, Kalonzo acknowledged that Sifuna could eventually become Kenya’s sixth president, expressing willingness to support an opposition victory that would end President William Ruto’s administration.

“He could very well end up being the sixth president. But you have to make it,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader added that he would be happy to see the country rescued from what he described as misrule and the abduction of young people.

“And by the way, if that happens, and this country is saved from misrule, from abduction of our young people, I’ll be the happiest senior citizen of Kenya,” he said.
