“Who Will Fuel These Prados?” Isaac Fayose Mocks APC Over SUV Gifts,Says “Penny Wise, Pound Foolish”

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday October 29, 2026, Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over reports that the party gifted brand-new Toyota Prado sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to its youth leaders.

Fayose questioned the decision, arguing that the vehicles could impose a significant financial burden on their beneficiaries amid rising petrol prices in Nigeria.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the social media critic challenged the rationale behind distributing fuel-consuming luxury vehicles when many Nigerians are struggling with the cost of transportation and other essential expenses.

He also questioned whether the party had considered the long-term cost of maintaining and fuelling the SUVs, suggesting that more economical alternatives would have been a better choice.

“You give new Prados to the youth leaders of APC, who fuels them? At the cost of fuel price today, which one is cheaper, an EV from China or a Prado that consumes fuel. Poor reasoning, penny wise, pound foolish. They just don’t care,” Fayose wrote.

He argued that providing expensive, fuel-intensive vehicles to young party members raised questions about the priorities behind the gesture, particularly at a time when fuel costs remain a concern for ordinary Nigerians.

Fayose’s comments also challenged the idea that distributing such vehicles constitutes meaningful youth empowerment, suggesting that the decision could reflect poor financial judgment rather than a practical investment in young people.

His criticism has since attracted reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some expressing support for his position and arguing that the APC could have considered more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Others have joined the discussion over the suitability of the reported gift, focusing on the recurring expenses associated with operating high-consumption SUVs.

The controversy has brought renewed attention to the debate over political spending, youth empowerment and the need to consider long-term operating costs when distributing expensive vehicles.
